Over 17 years Kim created her own niche through the support of her leaders. She started as a Server and very quickly she was recognized for getting her work done and became a shift leader. Then, on her own initiative, she began to train others in the restaurant.
While busy training, Kim had her heart in community service and started to get involved organizing programs for the restaurant to raise money for community charities. “Our company is down to earth and giving back is just as important. Our guests are not just people that eat at our restaurants, they are people that we live with in our community.”, she says. Through the programs that she spearheaded, Kim and her coworkers raised between $50 – 70,000 for community causes such as Run for the Cure, Halton Women’s Shelter and Halton Food for Thought.
In 2004, Kim progressed to the Canyon Creek concept. There she says she had a great manager and mentor that taught her financial, and time management among other things. During this time, the restaurant was in the throes of a Work Well Health and Safety audit. Kim saw how important Health & Safety was on a day to day basis. In the true spirit of Kim, she volunteered to help with Health & Safety to ensure that all Canyon Creek locations passed their audit – her one goal being that no one in her restaurants would ever get hurt.
A few years later, a need developed to have someone focus on Health & Safety full time. Kim was the natural choice, she had taken ownership and initiative on the cause at Canyon and was therefore asked to take on the role for the entire company. Today she sits as the Health & Safety Specialist for all Service Inspired Restaurants, including Support Office. She is a certified Occupational Health & Safety Trainer and sits on the Workplace Safety & Prevention Services committee, an amalgamation of health and safety organizations that discuss workplace health and safety issues, resolutions, and information accessibility. Together this committee has influence on how ministry regulations and laws are interpreted.
Kim is truly service inspired. From serving in our restaurants to serving all of our team members with the tools to create a healthy and safe environment, she has been able to follow a path that she created for herself.
